Till 20, I was this socially awkward & shy person whose idea of a conversation with opposite sex was often an incoherent garble of words coupled with profuse arm-pit sweating. (9 years later, I don’t think much has changed minus the arm-pit sweating, of course).
It was a usual boring day at my MBA entrance exam prep class (Math lecture) which I was spending very productively, day-dreaming and discussing mundane things with my best friend S. While we were discussing about how to waste more time, a particularly a long and lanky figure with leg braces sped past me almost toppling me off my chair.
Furious at being interrupted by this human-Giraffe, disrupting my dream dance-song sequence (with a face-less yet handsome man), I looked around to give him a piece of my mind for this catastrophe, my eyes fell on this goofy-long armed 6’2 feet tall (cute) guy (The human Giraffe).
He seemed mean-spirited and was plonked on a chair with a mouse-faced guy. (Presumably his friend). When I saw braces on his legs, I felt embarrassed to have thought of smothering him with a cricket bat.
Bespectacled Lanky-(Let’s call him Lanky shall we, please?) seemed to be a prodigy in Math with correct answers for every question thrown at him by the prof. There was something about him (apart from the Harry Potter looks) which I liked. I wasn’t really sure what it was but I wanted to know more about him.
Much to my lack of self-control, I later started stare-stalking him in the class and sometimes caught him looking directly at me (Embarrassed as I was, I didn’t give up). Exactly as in the movie Mean Girls sequence, like Aaron Samuels asked Cady what day it was on October 3rd, Lanky asked me if he could borrow my pencil in cutest way, possible (He was sitting right behind me). I played out this moment so many times in my head like a creep and saved it in my happy memories folder.
I didn’t know why Lanky seemed so important to me to occupy some space in my happy memories folder.
